Executive Learning

Human-Centred Leadership for Business-Critical Transformation

Technology, strategy and new operating models can set the direction for transformation. People determine whether it succeeds.

The human factor

Turning strategic ambition into behaviour

As organisations accelerate AI adoption, restructure businesses and adapt to new competitive realities, leaders face a critical challenge: turning strategic ambition into new behaviours, stronger collaboration and measurable performance.

Executive learning at Above & Beyond, which is part of AVT Business School, helps organisations address the human factors that can accelerate or derail transformation. Drawing on behavioural science and the latest leadership research, our learning journeys equip leaders to build the cultures, behaviours and organisational conditions required to perform through change.

Our programmes can be delivered as focused executive sessions, leadership modules or longer learning journeys, tailored to the organisation's strategic priorities and real business challenges.

The portfolio

Four Business-Critical Leadership Areas

01

The Human Foundation for AI Success

Turning AI investment into adoption, behaviour change and business value

AI transformation is not simply a technology challenge. Organisations can invest heavily in platforms, tools and training, but value is only created when people actually change how they work.

Leaders play a critical role in creating the conditions for employees to experiment, learn, challenge existing practices, share uncertainty and adopt new ways of working. This session equips leaders to identify and address the human and cultural barriers that can slow AI adoption.

Leaders learn to

  • Identify behavioural and cultural barriers to AI adoption
  • Build trust and psychological safety around experimentation
  • Address fear, resistance and hidden non-use
  • Create team norms that accelerate learning and responsible adoption
  • Lead the behavioural change required to translate AI investment into performance

Business impact

Faster adoption, greater experimentation and knowledge-sharing, reduced resistance and stronger return on AI investment.

Applied output

An AI Adoption Climate Diagnostic and a concrete leadership action plan identifying the conditions leaders need to strengthen.

02

Inclusive Leadership for High Performance

Unlocking contribution, better decisions and stronger team performance

In complex and fast-changing organisations, leaders cannot afford to hear only the loudest voices or rely on familiar perspectives.

The leadership capabilities traditionally associated with inclusion — curiosity, listening, trust, perspective-taking and constructive challenge — are increasingly core performance capabilities. They enable leaders to access more of the intelligence within their teams, improve decision-making and surface risks and opportunities earlier.

This session moves inclusion beyond a standalone DEI agenda and positions it where it belongs: within everyday leadership and high performance.

Leaders learn to

  • Understand how their own behaviour influences contribution and performance
  • Listen, question and challenge more effectively
  • Create psychological safety for candour and constructive disagreement
  • Reduce bias in everyday leadership decisions
  • Ensure the strongest ideas, rather than simply the strongest voices, shape outcomes

Business impact

Better decisions, stronger collaboration, greater employee contribution and teams that identify problems and opportunities earlier.

Applied output

Individual leadership assessment and feedback, followed by a targeted behavioural experiment applied to leaders' real work.

03

Culture Under Pressure

Building high-performance cultures without the hidden costs

Transformation increases pressure. Targets become more ambitious, decisions move faster and organisations expect greater adaptability from their people.

High standards can drive exceptional performance. But under pressure, cultures can also develop unwritten rules that work against performance: reluctance to ask for help, pressure to appear certain, excessive internal competition, fear of mistakes or an expectation that people should simply cope.

This session helps leaders distinguish between productive pressure and destructive pressure, and understand the norms that shape how people actually behave when performance matters most.

Leaders learn to

  • Diagnose the unwritten cultural norms operating within their teams
  • Understand how status, competition and expectations around toughness influence behaviour
  • Identify where cultural norms inhibit collaboration, learning or speaking up
  • Surface risks and mistakes earlier
  • Intervene without lowering standards or accountability

Business impact

High standards with fewer hidden costs, stronger collaboration, earlier escalation of risks, faster learning and a culture better equipped to perform through uncertainty and change.

Applied output

A Team Culture Norm Map identifying the behaviours currently accelerating performance and those creating friction, followed by specific leadership interventions.

04

Unlocking the Full Potential of Your Organisation

Leading effectively across generations, cultures and perspectives

Few organisations can afford to leave talent, experience or knowledge untapped.

Today's workforce spans generations, nationalities, geographies, professional disciplines and very different expectations of work and leadership. This diversity can be a significant source of innovation, adaptability and organisational intelligence, but unmanaged differences can also create friction, misunderstanding and lost productivity.

This session equips leaders to turn difference into organisational advantage, without reducing people to stereotypes about generations or cultures.

Leaders learn to

  • Understand how different experiences and frames of reference shape workplace behaviour
  • Recognise assumptions and misinterpretations that create unnecessary friction
  • Adapt communication and leadership while maintaining clear expectations
  • Strengthen collaboration across generations, cultures and professional boundaries
  • Improve knowledge-sharing and access more of the organisation's available talent

Business impact

Stronger collaboration, better communication, reduced friction, greater knowledge transfer and an organisation better able to attract, retain and leverage the capabilities of its full workforce.

Applied output

A Collaboration Diagnostic identifying where differences currently create friction or untapped potential, followed by practical commitments for improving collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

Our learning architecture

From leadership session to measurable behaviour change

Each topic can be delivered as a stand-alone executive session or developed into a broader leadership journey. Across the portfolio, we use a common learning architecture designed to move beyond inspiration and create application.

This can combine a pre-programme diagnostic, evidence-based learning, facilitated application to real business challenges, on-the-job behavioural experiments, peer reflection and post-programme evaluation and optimisation with AI tools.

The objective is not simply to give leaders new knowledge. It is to change the leadership behaviours and organisational conditions that determine whether transformation succeeds.
